Shrubs 1-2 m tall, sparsely pubescent. Leaf blades mostly 3-8 cm long, ovate or slightly trilobed, truncate or rounded, dentate, acute, sparsely stellate-pubescent above and beneath, the hairs often simple above; petioles 1/3 the length of the blades or less; stipules 3-5 mm long, subulate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels ca. 2 cm long, sparsely scabridulous; involucellar bracts 8-10, shorter than calyx, subulate-linear, hispid; calyx 9-12 mm long, stellate-pubescent, ca. half-divided, neither accrescent nor inflated; corolla flaring, the petals 1.5-3.5 cm long, red, erect; staminal column exserted, pallid, glabrous, the filaments 3-6 mm long; styles glabrous, the stigmas ca.
