Shrubs 1-5 m tall with pubescence of both stellate and simple hairs, sometimes viscid. Leaves long-petiolate, the blades lanceolate or ovate, cordate, crenate, acuminate, lacking foliar nectaries. Flowers in terminal, more or less leafless panicles or racemes; involucel absent; calyx basally rounded, twisted in bud, the tips of the acuminate lobes divergent; petals white to yellow, with or without a dark basal spot; androecium included, the column antheriferous at apex; styles 5-9, the stigmas capitate. Fruits schizocarpic, oblate, of 5-9 mericarps; mericarps essentially indehiscent, more or less rounded dorsally, with relatively fragile walls lacking ornamentation, with or without an apical beak, with a small endoglossum; seeds solitary, glabrous. Base chromosome number: x = 7.
