Descripción
Shrubs 0.5-1.5 m tall, the entire plant densely and evenly stellate-pubescent. Leaf blades mostly 4-8 cm long, broadly ovate or weakly trilobulate (about as wide as long), inconspicuously serrate to subentire, obtuse to acutish, markedly discolorous, often with an inconspicuous nectary near base of midrib beneath; petioles 1/2-1 times the length of the blades; stipules 4-7 mm long, subulate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 4-11 cm long, exceeding the subtending petioles; involucellar bracts ca. 9, 15-20 mm long, 3-6 mm wide, spatulate; calyx 22-30 mm long, more than half-divided, the lobes acuminate, 3 (-5)-nerved, neither accrescent nor inflated; petals 15-28 mm long, bright red, glabrous (including claw); staminal column 8-10 mm long, pallid, glabrous, the filaments 2-5 mm long; styles slender, glabrous, the stigmas 1 mm in diameter, villous, purplish. Capsules 15-20 mm long, ovoid to oblongoid, sparingly hispid to essentially glabrous; seeds 3.5 mm long, blackish, minutely pubescent (subglabrous). Chromosome number: 2n = 22.A
