Descripción
Perennial subshrubs, sparingly branched, 0.5-1 m tall, the stems densely stellate-pubescent, the hairs yellowish, appressed, mostly 4-armed, with a tendency to be aligned with the stem axis. Leaf blades mostly 1.5-4 cm long, ovate, elliptic or orbicular (usually simple, sometimes weakly 3-lobed), truncate, serrate, acute or obtuse, coarsely stellate-pubescent above and beneath, with a diffuse nectary near base of midrib beneath; petioles 1/3-2/3 the length of the blades; stipules 2-5 mm long, subulate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 3-12 cm long; involucellar bracts ca. 9, 9-18 mm long, linear, distinct, hispid; calyx 11-22 mm long, neither accrescent nor inflated, deeply divided, the lobes narrowly lanceolate, hispid, the hairs 1-2 mm long; petals 2.5-4.5 cm long, yellow (rarely with a purplish spot at the base), abaxially stellate-pubescent (in bud), ciliate on claw, otherwise glabrous; staminal column 8-10 mm long, glabrous, usually pallid, the filaments 2.5-3 mm long; styles prominently exserted, glabrous, the stigmas 1.2-1.7 mm in diameter, purple, with hairs to 1 mm long. Capsules 10-12 mm long, ovoid, sparsely strigose apically, seeds unknown. Chromosome number unknown.A
