Descripción
Shrubs 1.5-2 m tall, the stems green with sparse stellate pubescence. Leaf blades mostly 5-7.5 cm long, ovate or lanceolate, usually truncate (rarely cordate), irregularly dentate, acute, sparsely pubescent, with an obscure nectary at the base of the midrib beneath; petioles ca. 1 cm long; stipules 8-10 mm long, erect, spinescent, persistent. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 0.5-5 cm long; involucellular bracts 9, 8-14 mm long, ca. 1 mm wide, distinct, basally condyloid, lanceolate to spatulate; calyx 9-13 mm long, ca. ¥-divided, the lobes acute, neither accrescent nor inflated, sparsely pubescent; petals 2-2.5 cm long, red, erect forming a tubular corolla; staminal column 3-4.5 cm long, exserted, glabrous, pallid, the filaments 2-3 mm long, the anthers purplish; styles with long (1 mm) white hairs, the stigmas 0.6-0.8 mm in diameter.
