Shrubs 1-2 m tall, the stems sparsely stellate-pubescent to glabrate. Leaf blades mostly 4-9 cm long, lanceolate to ovate, cuneate to subtruncate, dentate, acute, glabrate above, sparsely stellate-pubescent beneath, slightly discolorous; petioles 3-7 mm long; stipules 4-11 mm long, erect, subulate-spinescent, persistent. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 0.5-3 cm long; involucellar bracts ca. 9, 6-14 mm long, basally connate for 2-4 mm and forming a rounded cup, the lobes broadly linear (or triangular), 1-3 mm wide, equaling or exceeding the calyx, sparsely pubescent; calyx 7-10 mm long, cylindrical, neither accrescent nor inflated, strigose, ca. 1/4-divided, the lobes 2 mm long, green, triangular; petals 17-19 mm long, narrowly spatulate (3-5 mm wide), red, erect forming a tubular corolla; androecium exserted, the column 24-26 mm long, glabrous, pallid, the filaments 3- 5 mm long; styles slender, glabrous, the stigmas less than 0.1 mm in diameter. Capsules 9-14 mm long, ovoid, antrorsely strigose, the hairs 1-1.5 mm long; seeds 3 mm long, sericeous, the hairs 3.5-5 mm long, brownish. Chromosome numbe unknown.A
