Erect subshrubs, stellate-pubescent. Leaves petiolate, the blades usually palmately 3-7-lobed (aceriform), truncate to cordate, crenate, acute, lacking foliar nectaries; stipules present. Flowers in congested or lax cymes, aggregated into paniculate inflorescences; involucel of 3 inconspicuous linear bractlets; calyx 5- lobed; petals white, equaling or slightly exceeding the calyx; androecium pallid, included, antheriferous at apex; styles 7-13, the stigmas capitate. Fruits schizocarpic, oblate, more or less glabrous; mericarps 7-13, blackish at maturity, indehiscent, glabrous, 1-seeded; seeds solitary, glabrous. Base chromosome number: x = 16.A
Discusión taxonómica
Kearnemalvastrum is a genus of two species occurring principally in Mexico but extending to Costa Rica, with disjunct populations in Colombia, principally at 1500 to 3100 m. The two species sometimes grow sympatrically but with little evidence of intergradation, although Bates (1967a) interprets a few specimens from Oaxaca and Puebla as natural hybrids.A
