Descripción
Low shrubs, reclining or prostrate (in ours) to scandent, the stems minutely stellate-pubescent and prominently aculeate with conical prickles ca. 1 mm long or more. Leaf blades palmately 5-lobed, truncate or subcordate, serrate, acute, moderately hispid beneath (with both simple and stellate hairs), sparsely so above, with a single nectary near base of midrib beneath. Inflorescence a terminal essentially leafless raceme; pedicels ca. 1 cm long, stellate-pubescent and prickly; involucellar bracts ca. 8, 10-12 mm long, distinct, simple, hispid; calyx 18-23 mm long, prominently and densely hispid (the hairs 2 mm long), half-divided, the lobes acuminate, with prominent midrib and marginal costae, with obscure nectary on each midrib; corolla funnelform, yellow with a maroon center, the petals 4.5 cm long, abaxially pubescent; staminal column ca. 2 cm long, glabrous, the filaments 2 mm long; styles exceeding the androecium, stigmas 1.3 mm in diameter, purplish. Capsules 3-4 cm long, ovoid, densely and antrorsely hispid, the hairs yellowish, stout; seeds 4 mm long, glabrous. Chromosome number: 2n = 144.A
