Descripción
Subshrubs 1-3 m tall, the stems glabrate. Leaf blades mostly 8-15 cm long, ovate to deeply digitately parted, truncate to cuneate, serrate, glabrate, with a nectary at the base of the midrib beneath; petioles 1/3-2/3 the length of the blades; stipules 5-9 mm long, subulate to lanceolate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels shorter than the subtending petioles, articulated at or near the base; involucellar bracts ca. 8, shorter than the calyx, connate basally, lanceolate; calyx 1.5-3 cm long, somewhat hispid to glabrate, with prominent marginal costae and nectary on midrib of each lobe, accrescent and fleshy in fruit, bright red; petals ca. 4 cm long, yellow with a maroon basal spot; staminal column ca. 1.5 cm long, glabrous, the filaments 1 mm long; styles exceeding the androecium, the stigmas 1.2 mm in diameter.
