Descripción
Small shrubs usually less than 1 m tall, the stems with appressed whitish stellate hairs, the 4 arms aligned 2-by-2 longitudinally with the stem axis. Leaf blades mostly 1.5-3 cm long, trifoliolate (except juvenile leaves simple to 3-lobed), the leaflets 3-5 times as long as wide, remotely serrate, obtuse or subacute, stellatehispid above and beneath; petioles 1/3-1 times the length of the blades; stipules 4-7 mm long, subulate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 2-18 cm long; involucellar bracts 9-11, 11-19 mm long, linear, distinct, ciliate; calyx 17-20 mm long, deeply divided, the lobes narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, neither accrescent nor inflated, ciliate on margins and principal nerves, the hairs 1-2 mm long; corolla rotate, the petals 2-3 (-4) cm long, yellow with a small (often striate) maroon spot at base or spot absent, sparsely ciliate distally, otherwise glabrous (nearly glabrous on claw); staminal column 5-9 mm long, pallid, glabrous, the filaments 1.5-2 mm long; styles pallid, glabrous, the stigmas ca. 1 mm diameter, often maroon, with hairs less than 0.5 mm long. Capsules 9-10 mm long, ovoid, usually antrorsely hispid apically (the hairs 1-1.5 mm long), with 5 longitudinal stripes (prior to maturity); seeds 2.5-3 mm long, sericeous, the hairs 4-5 mm long.
