Descripción
Subshrubs to 2 m tall (usually smaller), the stems minutely tomentulose, green or sometimes purplish. Leaf blades up to 6 cm long (often smaller), ovate, cordate, irregularly serrulate or crenate, acute to acuminate, densely tomentulose; petioles half the length of the blades or sometimes longer; stipules 3 mm long, subulate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils or in open leafy panicles; pedicels 0.5-2 cm long, articulated 2-5 mm below the flowers; calyx 3-5 mm long, ca. half-divided, the lobes lance-ovate, spreading (or somewhat reflexed) in fruit; corolla with a dark center, the petals 4-6 mm long, yellow or pink, reflexed, the margins of the claws densely pubescent, the apex obtuse; staminal column 2-3 mm tall, purplish, minutely pubescent with stellate or bifurcate hairs, the filaments 1-2 mm long, purple, the anthers yellow; styles 5. Fruits 7-9 mm long, ca. 6 mm in diameter, more or less columnar or caskshaped, tomentulose; mericarps 5, 3-seeded, apically acute or apiculate; seeds ca. 2 mm long, blackish, minutely pubescent (appearing glabrous).
