Shrubs to 2 m tall, the stems sparsely hirsute (hairs simple, 1-2 mm long), more densely so at base of petioles. Leaf blades mostly 8-14 cm long, cordate, ovate, almost as wide as long, remotely and shallowly denticulate, acuminate, with appressed simple hairs above, stellate-pubescent beneath; petioles 1/2-3/4 the length of the blades on midstem leaves, progressively shorter upwards; stipules 8-20 mm long, 5-10 mm wide, sessile, ciliate, falcate to auriculate-clasping, foliaceous, apically laciniate, becoming paired floral bracts, enclosing the buds in the inflorescence, caducous. Inflorescence an interrupted raceme (sometimes branched) surpassing the leaves; pedicels 0.3-2 cm long; calyx 9-13 mm long,1/2- 1/3- divided, the lobes erect or spreading, minutely stellate-puberulent and prominently ciliate; corolla without a dark center, the petals 9-15 mm long, orange-yellow, slightly reflexed; staminal column 5-7 mm long, pallid, densely stellate-pubescent, the filaments 2-3 mm long, the anthers yellowish, ca. 50; styles 10-11, slender, pallid, with sometimes purplish stigmas. Fruits 7-9 mm long, 8-10 mm in diameter, minutely and evenly stellate-pubescent; mericarps 10-11, 8-9 mm long, 3-seeded, rounded-acute; seeds 3 mm long, minutely scabridulous.
