Robust shrubs 2-5 m tall, often with several trunks, the herbage minutely puberulent (hairs stellate, 0.2-0.5 mm long), with glandular hairs only in the inflorescence. Leaf blades mostly 10-15 cm long, orbicular to ovate, deeply cordate, obscurely serrate, acuminate; petioles equaling the blades or somewhat shorter; stipules broadly foliar, auriculate-clasping, asymmetrical, caducous. Inflorescence an ample terminal panicle; pedicels 6-20 mm long; flowers subtended by floral bracts of stipular origin, these prominent but caducous; calyx 4-8 mm long, ca. half-divided, spreading in fruit; corolla without a dark center, the petals 8-14 mm long, orange, reflexed; staminal column 5-6 mm long, densely pubescent, the filaments 1-1.5 mm long, crowded at the apex, the anthers yellow; styles ca. 10, slender, reddish. Fruits 8-9 mm long, 8-11 mm in diameter, puberulent; mericarps ca. 10, 8~10 mm long, 3-seeded, rounded to acute apically; seeds 2 mm long, blackish, sparsely pubescent. Chromosome number: 2n = 14. A
