Erect or spreading subshrubs 0.5 m tall, the stems slender, sparsely pubescent with glandular hairs, occasionally also with simple hairs 1-2 mm long, glabrate in age. Leaf blades usually 2 (-4) cm long, oblong-ovate, cordate, indistinctly crenulate or serrulate, acute or obtuse, stellate-pubescent above and beneath, concolorous or nearly so; petioles almost as long as the blades; stipules 4-6 mm long, subulate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 1-4 cm long, usually exceeding the subtending petioles, articulated 3-5 mm below the flowers; calyx 8-17 mm long, with both stellate and simple hairs, ca. 2/3-divided, the lobes cordate and somewhat plicate at the base; corolla rotate, without a dark center, the petals 14-18 mm long, orange, stellate-pubescent on claw, otherwise glabrous; staminal column 3 mm long, glabrous, orange, the filaments 1-1.5 mm long, orange, the anthers yellow; styles 6-7, the glabrous, yellow, with maroon stigmas. Fruits 10-11 mm long and wide, equaling calyces, with both stellate and simple hairs 1-2 mm long; mericarps 6-7, 3- seeded, dorsally costate, apically spinescent (the spine 1-4 mm long); seeds ca. 2 mm long, blackish, muriculate.
