Descripción
Erect subshrubs ca. 1 m tall with ascending branches, the stems minutely stellate-puberulent, appearing farinaceous, the hairs less than 0.1 mm long. Leaf blades mostly 2.5-9 cm long (smaller upward), 2-4 times as long as wide, more or less rhomboid, serrate distally, acute to subobtuse (rarely retuse), minutely stellate puberulent above and beneath, often glabrescent above, appearing farinaceous beneath, more or less discolorous; petioles seldom more than 7 mm long; stipules 5-6 mm long, subulate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils, mostly scattered along the stems; pedicels 1-3 cm long, slender; calyx 5-6 mm long, 10-ribbed at the base, minutely puberulent; petals 7-9 mm long, yellow or yellow-orange; staminal column 2 mm long, pubescent, the filaments 1 mm long; styles 10-14. Fruits 4-5 mm in diameter, glabrous, oblate to conical; mericarps 10-14, laterally reticulate, muticous to apically 2-spined, the spine sometimes single through failure of dehiscence.
