Descripción
Herbs or subshrubs to 1 m tall, the stems green with minute stellate hairs and setae 1-2 mm long. Leaf blades 4-8 cm long, to 2 cm wide, lanceolate, truncate or subcordate, serrate to the base, acute, slightly discolorous, the lower surface evenly and softly pubescent (hairs 0.2-0.4 mm long), the upper surface with sparser and smaller hairs; petioles 1/4 the length of the blades or less; stipules 4-8 mm long, filiform, ciliate. Flowers solitary or in often unequal pairs in the leaf axils; pedicels up to 6 mm long; calyx 4-6 mm long, evenly stellate-pubescent, 10-ribbed basally. Flowers unknown. Fruits 4-5 mm in diameter; mericarps 5, the lower half broadly trigonal, glabrous, coarsely rugulose laterally and dorsally, the upper half dehiscent, minutely hispidulous, with two apical spines ca. 2.5 mm long, the hairs retrorse apically.
