Descripción
Perennial herbs, the stems procumbent, up to 1 m long, with minute appressed stellate hairs, the internodes abruptly shortened at apices. Leaf blades mostly 10-22 cm long, 4-10 times as long as wide, linear-lanceolate or oblong, subcordate, entire (or obscurely 3-dentate at apex), acute, uniformly stellate-pubescent beneath, marginally pubescent to glabrate above; petioles 15 the length of the blades or less; stipules 9-14 mm long, narrowly lanceolate to oblanceolate, sparsely hispid. Flowers axillary but crowded apically with leaves and stipules so as to appear fasciculate; pedicels 1-4 mm long; calyx 5-6 mm long, minutely stellate-pubescent, the lobes prominently ciliate (hairs 1-2 mm long); petals 16-23 mm long, asymmetrical, rose with a poorly defined dark red spot at the base, ciliate on claw, otherwise glabrous; staminal column 4.5 mm long, pallid, more or less pubescent, the filaments 1.5-2 mm long; styles 5-6. Fruits ca. 6 mm in diameter, oblate-conical, prominently muricate, each projection with glochidiate hairs at apex; mericarps 5-6, indehiscent. Chromosome number unknown.A
