Descripción
Erect herbs or subshrubs ca. 0.5 m tall, the stems several from the base, minutely stellate-pubescent, the hairs 0.3-0.4 mm long, sometimes also with simple hairs 2- 2.5 mm long. Leaf blades 1.5-4 cm long, 0.5-2 cm wide, ovate-oblong, truncate to more or less cordate, prominently serrate to the base, acute to obtuse, essentially concolorous, evenly stellate-pubescent beneath, more sparsely so above; petioles 1/3-1/2 the length of the blades; stipules 6-7 mm long, subulate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 0.5-2 cm long, articulated 1-2 mm below the flowers, exceeding the subtending petioles; calyx 6.5-9 mm long, stellate-pubescent and with long simple hairs, obscurely 10-nerved at the base, ca. half-divided, the 5 lobes acute or acuminate, the midrib manifest, the margins somewhat darker green; petals ca. 1 cm long, yellow fading rose; staminal column pubescent; styles ca. 8. Fruits 5-6 cm in diameter, oblate, apically pubescent; mericarps usually 8 (sometimes more), 3 mm long, straw-colored at maturity, the lateral walls strongly reticulate, apically dehiscent, the 2 spines 1 mm long or less (sometimes completely suppressed), the apex hispid but not retrosely barbed.
