Descripción
Erect shrubs or subshrubs to 1 m tall, the stems with sparse to dense minute stellate hairs and usually with glandular hairs intermingled. Leaf blades mostly 2-6 cm long, 0.5-2.5 (-3.5) cm wide, oblong-lanceolate to ovate, truncate, coarsely serrate to the base, acute, minutely stellate-pubescent above and beneath; petioles 1/4-1/2 the length of the blades or shorter upward; stipules ca. 4 mm long, subulate. Flowers solitary or paired in the leaf axils, commonly forming a more or less leafy raceme (rarely a panicle); pedicels 1-5 cm long, slender, articulated 4-9 mm below the flower, viscid; calyx 7-13 mm long, both stellate- and glandular-pubescent, the margins and veins sometimes dark-pigmented; petals 12-20 mm long, yellow to orange fading rose, glabrous; staminal column ca. 3 mm long, minutely pubescent, the filaments ca. 2 mm long, grouped in 5 phalanges; styles ca. 8, exceeding androecium, slender, pallid, the stigmas purple. Fruits 5-6 mm in diameter, oblate; mericarps ca. 8, coarsely reticulate laterally, apically rounded to apiculate, usually glabrate except the spines sometimes retrorsely pubescent.
