Descripción
Subshrubs or shrubs 0.5-1.5 m tall, the stems green, slender, pubescent with stellate and simple hispid hairs (1-2 mm long), minute stellate hairs, and longitudinal lines of recurved hairs decurrent from the stipules. Leaf blades mostly 2~5 cm long, ovate, truncate, irregularly serrate, acute or acuminate, about twice as long as wide, sparsely pubescent, the hairs beneath of variable size, stellate and 3-5- armed, the hairs above of variable size, the largest simple and 1-1.5 mm long; petioles mostly 1/3-2/3 the length of the blades or less; stipules 4-6 mm long, filiform, persistent. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels up to 6 cm long, often exceeding the subtending leaves, slender; involucellar bracts 10-15, 10-15 mm long, filiform, distinct, prominently hispid-ciliate, more or less arcuate to spreading; calyx 4-6 mm long, minutely stellate-pubescent, about half-divided, the lobes 3- nerved; petals 1.5-2.5 cm long, yellowish white, glabrous except ciliate on claw; staminal column ca. 5 mm long, glabrous, pallid, the filaments 1.5-2 mm long, the pollen yellow-orange; styles exceeding the staminal column, pallid, glabrous, free distally; stigmas prominently villous. Fruits ca. 6 mm in diameter, mericarps reticulately veined, 3-spined, the spines 1 (~1.5) mm long, retrorsely barbed. Chromosome number: 2n = 42.A
