Descripción
Shrubs to 2 m tall, the stems stellate-pubescent, the hairs 0.5 mm long. Leaf blades 6-8.5 cm long, 3-5 cm wide at midstem, progressively reduced upward, narrowly ovate or somewhat 3-lobed, cordate to nearly truncate, coarsely and irregularly crenate-serrate, acute, palmately 7-nerved, discolorous (whitish beneath), sparsely stellate-pubescent above, densely so beneath; petioles 2-3.5 cm long (1/3 the length of the blades or less), stellate-pubescent, more densely and coarsely so on adaxial side; stipules not observed (caducous). Inflorescence a leafless terminal raceme; pedicels 1-2.5 cm long, 1 mm in diameter or less, sparsely stellate-pubescent; involucel 9-12 mm long (exceeding the calyx at anthesis), minutely puberulent, the individual bractlets 8-9, linear-lanceolate, basally connate and forming a cup; calyx 7-8 mm long (not accrescent), minutely puberulent, ca. half-divided, the lobes prominently 3-nerved; corolla tubular, the petals 16-18 mm long, erect, dark red, abaxially pubescent, adaxially minutely pubescent (distally), glabrous on margin of claw; staminal column subequal to the petals, glabrous, densely antheriferous near apex; styles 10, the stigmas capitate, villous, maroon.
