Descripción
Shrubs 3-5 m tall (or occasionally a tree to 6 m, with short trunk 15 cm DBH), the stems stellate-pubescent, the hairs ca. 0.5 mm long or glabrate. Leaf blades mostly 6-17 cm long, 3-5 (-7)-lobed (or simple and ovate), deeply cordate, crenate-serrate, usually acute, minutely stellate-pubescent, more densely and coarsely so beneath, occasionally glabrate above, somewhat discolorous; petioles subequal to the blades on midstem leaves, progressively reduced upward to 1/4 the length of the blades or less at inflorescence; stipules inconspicuous, early caducous. Inflorescence a crowded terminal leafless raceme; pedicels 5-10 (-25) mm long, stellate-pubescent; involucellar bractlets ca. 8, 1 (-1.5) cm long, somewhat connate basally but essentially distinct, narrowly linear, stellate-pubescent especially at base; calyx 7-8 mm long, stellate-pubescent (especially on nerves), ca. halfdivided, the lobes triangular, 3-nerved; corolla tubular, the petals 10-12 mm long, pale yellow, erect, abaxially glandular-puberulent; staminal column 18-22 mm long, exserted, pallid, glabrous, the filaments 2 mm long, ca. 20, more or less secund; styles exceeding the androecium, glandular-pubescent, the stigmas minutely villous.
