Descripción
Subshrubs ca. 0.5 m tall, the stems with minute stellate pubescence, the hairs 0.1 mm long. Leaf blades up to 45 mm long (or longer), ovate-triangular to hastate oblong, cordate, coarsely crenate, acute or subobtuse, discolorous, minutely stellate-pubescent above and beneath, more densely so beneath; petioles 1/3 the length of the blades or less (longer in Socorro Island material); stipules ca. 2 mm long, subulate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 17-23 mm long, exceeding subtending petioles, involucellar bracts 5, 4-6 mm long, 2-3 mm wide, alternate with calyx lobes, ovate; calyx 6-8 mm long, the lobes ovate; petals (10-) 18-22 mm long, deep rose. Fruits ca. 6 mm in diameter, oblate, minutely pubescent; mericarps ca. 4 mm long, dorsally rounded and keeled, reticulate-costate; seeds 2.5 mm long, tufted on hilum. Chromosome number: 2n = 56.A
