Pavonia chlorantha (Kunth) Fryxell

Descripción

Shrubs 1-7 m tall, the stems variably pubescent, with minute stellate hairs and longer (1 mm) somewhat curly simple hairs, the latter sometimes in dense longitudinal lines decurrent from the stipules. Leaf blades mostly 613 cm long, 8 cm wide, ovate {(sometimes weakly 3-lobed), cordate, obscurely to prominently crenate serrate, acute to acuminate, reduced upward, palmately 7-9-nerved, sparsely stellate-pubescent above and beneath; petioles 15~14 the length of the blades in vegetative growth, reduced and the leaves subsessile immediately below the inflorescence, with pubescence like stem; stipules 5-8 mm long, subulate. Inflorescence a terminal raceme, above the leaves, the flowers solitary in the leaf axils (but the leaves suppressed and the nodes often shortened, resulting in crowding); pedicels up to 4 cm long at base of inflorescence to 0.5 cm long at apex, inarticulate; involucellar bracts 6-7, connate and forming a basal cup, free for the distal 1 cm, linear to subspatulate (1-3 mm wide), slightly exceeding calyx, sparingly hirsute throughout, sometimes densely so (bearded) at very base; calyx 10-14 mm long, ca. half-divided, the lobes 3-nerved, minutely puberulent to subglabrate, sometimes hispid; corolla funnelform, the petals 2.5-3 cm long, purplish (drying yellowish), minutely pubescent abaxially; androecium subequal to the petals, declined, making the flower somewhat zygomorphic; stigmas slightly exserted. Fruits 12-13 mm in diameter, oblate, woody, minutely puberulent, 10-ribbed; mericarps ca. 6 mm long, indehiscent, wedge-shaped, with central ridge on dorsal wall and two lateral ridges. Chromosome number unknown.A
