Descripción
Shrub ca. 3 m tall, the stems minutely and densely stellate-pubescent, the younger stems also viscid. Leaf blades mostly 9-16 cm long, about as wide, ovate or weakly lobulate, cordate, remotely and shallowly denticulate, acuminate, puberulent above and beneath, discolorous; petioles 2/3 the length of the blades to slightly exceeding the blades; stipules 2-5 mm long, filiform, caducous. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils but more or less aggregated apically; pedicels up to 6 cm long, slender, viscid-puberulent; involucellar bracts 5, 8-13 mm long, alternate with the calyx lobes, lance-ovate, acuminate, essentially distinct, viscid-puberulent; calyx equaling involucel or slightly shorter, ca. half-divided, the lobes with prominent midrib, viscid-puberulent; corolla rotate, rose with a diffuse purplish throat, the petals ca. 2 cm long, glabrous throughout; staminal column 14-15 mm long, glabrous, pallid, antheriferous throughout, the filaments 2-4 mm long, the pollen yellow; styles slightly exceeding the androecium. Fruits (immature) oblate, enclosed by the calyces; mericarps subequal to column, sparsely glandular-puberulent, with a dorsal ridge and some raised reticulate venation. Chromosome number unknown. A
