Descripción
Erect subshrubs, the stems minutely stellate-pubescent. Leaf blades up to 8 cm long, 4 cm wide, ovate, somewhat cordate, coarsely dentate, acuminate, gradually reduced upward, minutely stellate-pubescent above and beneath, discolorous; petioles 1/2 the length of the blades or more; stipules 4-5 mm long, filiform. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels up to 5.5 cm long, exceeding the subtending petioles, minutely stellate-pubescent, articulated 5-7 mm below the flower; involucellar bracts 6, 10-11 mm long, 0.5-1 mm wide, linear, minutely pubescent; calyx 7-10 mm long, puberulent, ca. half-divided, the lobes 3-nerved, the intercostal areas whitish; corolla rotate, the petals 22-24 mm long, white (?), with a small dark spot at base; staminal column ca. 1 cm long, bearded at base (contiguous with claws of petals), otherwise glabrous; antheriferous in upper half; stamens few (ca. 20), the filaments 2-3 mm long, the pollen yellow; styles exceeding the androecium. Fruits ca. 6 mm in diameter, 5-lobate; mericarps 4 mm long, subequal to column, glabrous, rounded, weakly reticulate-veined. Chromosome number unknown.A

The type was collected in Aguascalientes (although the isotype at K is labelled Zacatecas), but no habitat information is available, and no further collections are known. Pavonia hirtiflora is closely allied to P. monticola.A
