Descripción
Shrubs 0.5-2 m tall, minutely and roughly stellate-pubescent. Leaf blades mostly 5-9 cm long, ovate or weakly 3-lobed, reduced upwards, cordate or truncate, crenate or serrate, acute, stellate-pubescent above and beneath, slightly discolorous; petioles 1/3-2/3 the length of the blades, reduced upward to almost sessile; stipules 4-5 mm long, linear, caducous. Inflorescence generally a terminal raceme rising above the leaves; pedicels 1-2.5 cm long; involucel shorter than the calyx, 8- 10-parted, connate basally; calyx 10-12 mm long in flower, accrescent to 15 mm in fruit, about half-divided, the lobes narrowly triangular, 3-nerved; corolla tubular, the petals 1.5-2 cm long, erect, dark red, abaxially pubescent; androecium included, the staminal column glabrous, pallid, the filaments 2-3 mm long, the pollen yellow; stigmas subglabrous, slightly exceeding stamens. Fruits 1.5 cm in diameter, oblate, glabrous, prominently 10-ribbed; mericarps unornamented, glabrous. Chromosome number unknown.A
