Descripción
Shrubs ca. 1.5 m tall, the stems densely and roughly stellate-pubescent, the hairs variable in length (average 0.5 mm, maximum 1 mm). Leaf blades mostly 7- 10 cm long, broadly ovate and often 3-lobulate, subtruncate to deeply cordate, crenate to subentire, rounded-acute, minutely stellate-pubescent above, densely so beneath, discolorous; petioles 1/4-3/4 the length of the blades; stipules 4-5 mm long, subulate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils or more commonly in a terminal aggregation (condensed raceme) of 2-6 flowers; pedicels 2.5-4.5 cm long, with pubescence like stem; involucellar bracts 8-10, 6-12 mm long, basally connate but nearly distinct, narrowly triangular, stellate-pubescent; calyx 1.5 cm long, ca. half-divided, stellate-pubescent, the lobes 7-10 mm wide at sinus, ovate, acute or acuminate, obscurely 3-5-nerved; corolla tubular, the petals 3-3.5 cm long, yellowish, sparsely pubescent abaxially; androecium ca. 2 cm long, the filaments 2-3 mm long, the anthers and pollen yellow; styles and stigmas exceeding the androecium, shorter than the petals. Fruits 16-19 mm in diameter, oblate-depressed, retrorsely scabrid (hairs 0.5 mm long, brownish), 5- or 10-ribbed; mericarps 8-10 mm long, indehiscent, dorsally ridged (the ridge broadly rounded), woody.
