Descripción
Erect herbs ca. 1 m tall, the stems and petioles minutely and evenly stellate- puberulent. Leaf blades mostly 3-7 cm long, broadly ovate below, becoming progressively narrower and hastately 3-lobed above, truncate to cordate, ciliate and undulate or remotely serrate, acute, glabrate above, nearly so beneath; petioles 1/2 - 1 times as long as the blades. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils or forming a terminal leafless raceme; pedicels 2-8 cm long; calyx 6-8 mm long, prominently hirsute (hairs at base to 1 mm long), the lobes with a prominent midrib; corolla with a dark red center, the petals 6 - 8 mm long, pale yellow or cream; staminal column ca. 2 mm long, reddish or purplish, prominently ribbed, glabrous (or with a few apical hairs), the filaments less than 1 mm long, purple, the anthers reddish; styles ca. 10, pallid. Fruits ca. 7 mm in diameter, oblate, hirsute, with radiating spurs ca. 1 mm long; mericarps ca. 10, the lateral walls evanescent, seeds ca. 3 mm long, completely enclosed in a persistent reticulate endocarp.
