Descripción
Erect shrubs to 2.5 (-4) m tall, the stems sparsely puberulent to glabrate, often purplish. Leaf blades mostly 4-8 cm long, ovate-lanceolate, truncate, crenate- serrate, narrowly acute, with appressed simple hairs above, minute stellate hairs beneath, nearly concolorous; petioles less than half the length of the blades. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils but generally aggregated apically in a congested inflorescence; pedicels mostly 2-3.5 cm long, slender, minutely stellate-pubescent; calyx 7-11 mm long, evenly pubescent with stellate and glandular hairs intermixed, ca. half-divided, the lobes long-acuminate, sometimes apically purplish; corolla without a dark center, the petals 14-18 mm long, pink or lavender; staminal column pallid, apically pubescent, ca. 4 mm long, the filaments 3 mm long; styles 8-10, pinkish. Fruits 8-9 mm in diameter, oblate, minutely stellate- and glandular-puberulent; mericarps 8-10, with a small (0.5 mm) dorsal umbo, the lateral walls evanescent; seeds 2.5 mm long, minutely scabridulous, endocarp absent.
