Erect herbs or subshrubs, minutely and roughly pubescent. Leaf blades mostly 3-7 (-12) cm long, ovate-triangular to lanceolate, truncate to cuneate, remotely and obscurely dentate or crenate to subentire, acute, with simple appressed hairs above, minute stellate hairs beneath, somewhat discolorous; petioles usually less than 1 cm long but much longer on lower leaves. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils or forming a terminal panicle; pedicels up to 4 (-6) cm long, minutely stellate- pubescent and with or without scabrid hairs, articulated ca. 5 mm below the flower; calyx 6 mm long, accrescent to 9 mm long in fruit, minutely stellate-pubescent; corolla without a dark center, the petals 9-16 mm long, yellow; staminal column stellate-pubescent; styles 10-12. Fruits (Fig. 15I) ca. 9 mm in diameter, densely stellate-pubescent (the hairs 0.5-1 mm long); mericarps 10-12, dorsally spined (the spine 1-1.5 mm), the lateral walls evanescent; seeds 3 mm long, minutely verruculate, enclosed in reticulate endocarp with prominent excrescences on margin.
