Descripción
Large shrubs or small trees, dioecious, the young branches with brownish stellate pubescence. Leaf blades mostly 8-16 cm long, about as wide, broadly ovate to weakly 3-lobed, usually cordate, acute to acuminate (rarely obtuse), minutely and sparsely strigose above (the stellate hairs 2-3-armed), densely pallid-tomentose beneath (the hairs 8-10-armed), with a single nectary near base of midrib, domatia present; petioles 1/2-1 times the length of the blades. Flowers 1-4 in the leaf axils; pedicels 0.5-2.5 cm long, densely yellow-brown-puberulent; involucellar nectaries 3, bordered, prominent; bractlets of the involucel minute and linear, 2 or 3 inserted above each nectary, very early caducous; calyx 7-12 mm long, subtruncate or obscurely 5-toothed (becoming torn in flower); petals 1.5-2 cm long, densely gland- dotted; stamens of staminate flowers numerous, the filaments 5-7 mm long, gland- dotted; androecium of pistillate flowers reduced, the filaments 2-3 mm long, the anthers usually non-dehiscent or rarely producing a few pollen grains; style exceeding androecium by 5 mm, recurved. Capsules 3.5-4 cm long, ovoid, 3-loculed, greenish puberulent, woody, with 4-6 seeds per locule. Chromosome number: 2n = 26.A
