Descripción
Dioecious trees to 7 m tall, the herbage glabrate. Leaf blades mostly 15-25 cm long, 2-3 times as long as wide, broadly elliptic, truncate or cuneate, acute or acuminate, glabrate, with a small nectary near base of midrib beneath or sometimes with 3 nectaries located more distally, without domatia; petioles 1/4-1/2 the length of the blades. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 3 cm long (in flower) to 16 cm long (in fruit), slender; involucellar nectaries absent; involucellar bractlets 3, 1.5-2 mm long, subulate, persistent, inconspicuous; calyx 6-8 mm long, proximally puberulent, distally glabrate, becoming torn following anthesis; petals 20~22 mm long, fringed and asymmetrically distorted distally; filaments of staminate flowers 4-7 mm long. Capsules 3 cm in diameter, pendulous, globose, coriaceous, externally greenish puberulent, internally glabrous; seeds ca. 1 cm long, 2 or 3 per locule, almost black. Chromosome number unknown.A
