Descripción
Shrubs or small trees 2-7 m tall, brown-puberulent in the meristem, but herbage otherwise essentially glabrous. Leaf blades mostly 8-13 cm long, as wide as long, ovate or sometimes weakly 3-lobulate, usually deeply cordate, acuminate, discolorous, essentially glabrous, with 3-5 small nectaries on principal nerves be- neath; petioles 1/2-1 times the length of the blades. Flowers 1-2 in the leaf axils; pedicels 1-1.5 cm long in flower, 1-3 cm long in fruit, glabrous, surmounted by 3 prominent nectaries, these usually irregularly inserted (often below calyx on pedicel); involucellar bracts 3-6, subulate, minute, inserted above the nectaries, very early caducous; calyx 6-9 mm long, weakly 5-nerved, often 5-toothed, glabrate, torn in flower and somewhat reflexed in fruit; petals 1.5-2 cm long; flowers perfect, the filaments 3-6 mm long.
