Descripción
Dioecious shrubs or small trees to 6 m tall, the herbage glabrate. Leaf blades mostly 20-26 cm long, wider than long, ovate (sometimes weakly trilobulate), deeply cordate, acute or abruptly acuminate, minutely ciliate-margined, with 3-5 small nectaries on principal veins beneath, domatia present; petioles subequal to the blades. Flowers 1-2 in the leaf axils; pedicels 0.5-2 cm long (in flower) to 3 cm long (in fruit), stout and woody, surmounted by 3 involucellar nectaries that are sometimes somewhat irregularly inserted; involucellar bractlets 3, 5-7 mm long, linear, puberulent, caducous in fruit; calyx 7-12 mm long, yellowish puberulent, obsoletely 5-dentate becoming torn at anthesis; petals 3 cm long; staminal column 3 of staminate flowers manifest (4-5 mm long), the filaments 4-10 mm long; style of pistillate flowers twisted. Capsules 3.5-4.5 cm long, 1.5-2 cm in diameter, ellipsoid, (-4)-loculed, externally yellow-green-puberulent, internally glabrous or with sparse hairs along suture of dehiscence; seeds ca. 8§ mm long, 8-12 per locule, shiny brown-black.
