Shrubs up to 6 m tall, the young growth densely stellate-pubescent, the hairs more or less ferrugineous. Leaf blades mostly 7-11 cm long, ovate (progressively smaller and narrower upward), cordate, acuminate, somewhat discolorous, minutely stellate-pubescent above and beneath; petioles usually half the length of the blades or less. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 0.5-1.5 (-3) cm long, pubescent; calyx 7-10 mm long, stellate-pubescent, ca. half-divided, the lobes apiculate, with a prominent midrib; petals 1.5-2 cm long, yellow, pubescent on margin of claw, otherwise glabrous; staminal column 4-6 mm long, the filaments 2-4 mm long; styles 8-10, slender, glabrous. Fruits 10-12 mm in diameter, urceolate; mericarps 8-10, 6.5-9 mm long, dorsally with a wing that is rudimentary or reduced to a ridge; seeds ca. 3 mm long, pubescent. Chromosome number unknown. A
