Descripción
Shrubs 2-5 m tall, the young growth stellate-pubescent, the hairs more or less ferrugineous, often stipitate. Leaf blades mostly 9-15 cm long, ovate (broadly so and cordate below to narrower and truncate above), acuminate, somewhat discolorous, long, minutely stellate-pubescent above and beneath, sometimes glabrate above; petioles ca. half the length of the blades or sometimes longer. Flowers solitary or paired in the leaf axils; pedicels 4-9 cm long, slender, the buds nodding; calyx (10-) 15-20 mm long, thin-textured, densely pubescent, deeply divided, the lobes narrowly triangular-acuminate, with a prominent midrib; petals 2.5-4 cm yellow (rarely with a reddish base), pubescent on claw (adaxially and abaxially), otherwise glabrous; staminal column 10-14 mm long, densely pubes- cent, tapering distally, the filaments 5-6 mm long; styles 13-15, slender, sometimes pubescent. Fruits subglobose; mericarps 13-15, dorsally with a broad lacerate wing bearing stipitate hairs, 3-5-seeded; seeds 3.2 mm long, pubescent. Chromosome number: 2n = 30.A
