Shrubs or small trees up to 6 m tall, the young growth densely ferrugineous stellate-pubescent. Leaf blades mostly 7-14 cm long, broadly to narrowly ovate, cordate, acuminate, slightly discolorous, minutely stellate-pubescent above and beneath; petioles usually ca. half the length of the blades. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels up to 9 cm long, stellate-pubescent; calyx 2-3 cm long, thick- textured, ferrugineous-pubescent, half or more divided, the lobes with a keel-like midrib; corolla rotate, the petals 3.5-6 cm long, broadly obovate, yellow, some- times with an orange or reddish base, pubescent on margins of claw; staminal column 11-20 mm long, basally pubescent; styles 16-18, pubescent. Fruits 16-28 mm in diameter, oblate; mericarps 16-18, dorsally with a broad (3-4 mm) lacerate wing bearing stipitate hairs, ca. 6-seeded (?); seeds 3.5 mm long, pubescent. Chromosome number unknown.
