Descripción
Herbs or subshrubs 1-2 m tall, the stems green, hispid or scabrid with stellate or simple hairs, sometimes also with narrow lines of minute recurved or twisted hairs decurrent from the stipules. Leaf blades up to 14 cm long, progressively reduced upwards, lanceolate, hastate, or somewhat lobed, dentate, stellate-pubescent above and beneath, often with large few-armed hairs intermingled with much smaller hairs; petioles usually 2/3 the length of the blades or less (leaves subsessile in inflorescence). Flowers solitary in the leaf axils or forming diffuse leafy panicles; pedicels minutely scabridulous; involucellar bracts 7-9, 2-3 mm long; calyx 3-5 mm long; corolla rotate, the petals 8-10 mm long, whitish or yellowish (fading pink); staminal column subequal to corolla or shorter, glabrous, pallid, the filaments 0.5-1 mm long; styles glabrous, the stigmas pallid. Capsules 4-5 mm long, ca. 6 mm in diameter (excluding wings), stellate-pubescent and with prominent uncinate hairs on margins of wings (sutures of dehiscence); seeds 2.5 mm long, glabrous.
