Malvastrum bicuspidatum subsp. oaxacanum Rose ex S.R. Hill
Description
Compact few-branched subshrubs, the stems stellate-pubescent. Leaf blades 2- 3 cm long, ovate, more or less truncate, serrate, acute, densely stellate-pubescent beneath, with simple or stellate hairs above, somewhat discolorous; petioles less than 1 cm long; stipules ca. 6 mm long, ciliate, subulate. Inflorescence an interrupted terminal raceme; floral bracts bifid, longer than wide; pedicels less than 1.5 mm long; involucellar bracts ca. 5 mm long, linear; calyx 6-7 mm long, ca. half divided, conspicuously ciliate; petals 10-14 mm long; staminal column pubescent, the anthers ca. 40; styles and stigmas ca. 10, exceeding the androecium by ca. 1.5-2 mm. Fruits 6-7 mm in diameter; mericarps ca. 10, ca. 2.5 mm long, compressed, apically pubescent with stellate hairs 0.5 mm long or less, the lateral walls somewhat shiny, smooth and essentially unribbed, with 2 dorsal cusps ca. 0.5 mm long, with a small endoglossum; seeds ca. 2 mm long. Chromosome number: 2n = 24.
