Descripción
Herbs, subshrubs, or shrubs 0.5-1.5 m tall, stellate-pubescent, the hairs 5-12- armed, usually tufted. Leaf blades mostly 3-8 cm long, ovate or weakly lobulate, truncate, serrate, acute, minutely stellate-pubescent above and beneath; petioles 1/4 -3/4 the length of the blades; stipules mostly 3-5 mm long, lanceolate. Flowers sessile and crowded in dense spicate inflorescences, the spikes usually elongate (more than 3 cm long), terminal or terminating lateral axillary branches, the individual flowers bracteate and subtended by an involucel of 3 linear bractlets; calyx 5-6 mm long, accrescent to 6-10 mm in fruit, hirsute; petals 8-9 mm long; androecium yellowish, the column stellate-pubescent; styles and stigmas 11-14. Fruits oblate, 5-6 mm in diameter; mericarps 11-14, apically setose, dorsally smooth and glabrous, laterally ribbed, without cusps, with a minute (0.1-0.3 mm) endoglossum; seeds 1.5 mm long.
