Descripción
Subshrubs (occasionally annual herbs), the stems with appressed 4-armed stellate hairs, the arms oriented longitudinally with the stem axis. Leaf blades mostly 2-8 (-9) cm long, ovate or lanceolate, dentate, usually with simple hairs above, with simple and/or stellate hairs beneath; petioles mostly 1/4-1/2 the length of the blades, rarely longer; stipules 3-6 mm long, narrowly falcate. Flowers usually solitary in the leaf axils; pedicels 2-10 mm long, subequal to the calyces; involucellar bracts shorter than the calyx, linear or narrowly spatulate; calyx 5-7 mm long in flower, accrescent to 8-11 mm long in fruit, hirsute; corolla exceeding the calyx; androecium yellowish, the column glabrous; styles and stigmas 10-12. Fruits 67 mm in diameter; mericarps 10-12, setose, 3-cusped (1 apical, 2 dorsal), endoglossum absent; seeds 1.5-1.7 mm long. Chromosome number: 2n = 24.A

Pantropical but extends into the temperate zones. It often occurs in disturbed habitats (including urban sites) and also along streams in deciduous forest. It is found nearly throughout Mexico and flowers throughout the year.A
