Descripción
Perennial subshrubs to 1.5 m tall, the stems few, greenish, with whitish stellate pubescence. Leaf blades mostly 2-6 cm long, ovate or oblong-ovate, shallowly to deeply 3-lobed, the central lobe sometimes secondarily cleft, basally cuneate, coarsely dentate, acute or obtuse, green, sparsely pubescent, somewhat dis colorous. Flowers one or more in the leaf axils, usually forming an interrupted racemiform inflorescence; pedicels equaling or exceeding the calyces; involucellar bracts shorter than calyx, linear; calyx 5-7 mm long, ca. half-divided; petals 8-13 mm long, short-clawed, grenadine; staminal column 5-6 mm long, more or less pubescent; styles ca. 10. Fruits ca. 5-7 mm in diameter, truncate-conical, usually exceeding the calyx; mericarps ca. 10 (?), 4-4.5 mm long, usually 2-seeded, almost twice as long as wide, apically cuspidate and dehiscent, the spine 1 mm long or more, the indehiscent (basal) portion less than half of mericarp, chartaceous and obscurely reticulate laterally; seeds pubescent.
