Perennial subshrubs, the stems many, erect, densely yellowish pubescent, up to 1.5 m tall or more. Leaf blades mostly 3-6 cm long, 1-2 times as long as wide, deltate-ovate to shallowly lobed, truncate or subcordate, crenulate to dentate, usually obtuse, densely yellowish pubescent. Inflorescence racemiform, interrupted, floriferous; pedicels shorter than to much longer than the calyces, slender; involucellar bracts 2-3 mm long, linear; calyx 3.5-6.5 mm long, ca. half-divided; petals 1-1.5 cm long, short-clawed, grenadine; staminal column ca. 6 mm long, pubescent; styles 11-14. Fruits 7-8 mm in diameter, truncate-conical, stellate pubescent; mericarps 11-14, 4-5 mm long, 2-seeded, apically spinescent, the lateral walls of lower (indehiscent) portion finely (sometimes obscurely) reticulate, chartaceous; seeds glabrescent.
