Descripción
Herbs, trailing or ascending, slightly pubescent or glabrate. Leaf blades mostly 2-7 cm long, orbicular or reniform, crenate, undulate, or palmately 5-7-lobed; petioles 2-3 (-4) times the length of the blades; stipules 4-5 mm long, 2-3 mm wide. Flowers 1-4 in the leaf axils; pedicels shorter than the calyces; bractlets of the involucel ca. 0.5 mm wide, filiform; calyx 3-4 mm long in flower, accrescent to 7-8 mm long in fruit; petals 4-5 mm long, scarcely exceeding the calyx, lavender or white; staminal column glabrous. Fruits 6-7 mm in diameter; mericarps ca. 10, rugose or wrinkled dorsally and winged at the angle between the dorsal and lateral walls, giving the fruit a ribbed appearance. Ecología y Hábitat
Occurs from Spain and North Africa to India and has become naturalized in the Americas. It occurs nearly throughout Mexico as a weed, often in urban habitats. It flowers throughout the year. It is also grown in cultivation (Baja California, Oaxaca?) as a nutritious forage crop, sometimes under irrigation, which contradicts Webb’s (1948) reference to this species as poisonous.
