Descripción

Shrubs or small trees 1.5-10 m tall, tomentose, the stellate hairs often stipitate, whitish to yellowish. Leaf blades mostly 8-21 cm long, cordate, usually palmately 5(-7)-lobed, the lobes dentate, acuminate; petioles 1/2-1 times the length of the blades; stipules 6-13 mm long. Peduncles 4-17 cm long, axillary, supporting a 1-4- flowered umbel (usually 3-flowered); involucel 1.5-2.5 cm long, sometimes enclosing bud as gamophyllous tube, sometimes of 3 distinct ovate bracts, often caducous; calyx 2.5-4 cm long, ca. half-divided, densely yellow-puberulent; petals 3.5-7 cm long, rose or white, glabrous throughout (including the claw); androecium usually shorter than the petals, the filaments ca. 3 mm long, the pollen yellow; styles 30-40, the stigmas introrsely decurrent. Fruits 2-3.5 cm in diameter, oblate; mericarps 30-40; 15-32 mm long, seeds 3 mm long. Chromosome number: 2n = 34.A
