A tree, often 15-23 meters high, the trunk to 50 cm. in diameter, the bark smooth, grayish, the inner bark mucilaginous; leaves long-petiolate, broadly ovate or rounded-ovate, often very large, acute or short-acuminate, rounded or cordate at the base, crenate, glabrous on the upper surface or with minute scattered stellate hairs, beneath minutely pubescent with stellate appressed hairs, often appearing glabrous; panicles often very large, finely stellate-tomentulose; sepals 5 mm. long, not appendaged, densely and minutely stellate-tomentulose and grayish; fruit long-stipitate, oval-orbicular, the faces densely hirsute.A
