Erect shrubs, 1-2 m tall, the stems sulcate in dried state, densely stellate-puberulent: leaf-blades ovate, serrate, cordate at base, acuminate, mostly 4-7 cm long, 2.5-5 cm wide, palmately 5-7 nerved, discolorous (whitish on the abaxial surface), evenly stellate-pubescent on both surfaces; petioles 0.5-2 cm long; inflorescences axillary or terminal, the flowers numerous, the pedicels 8-12 mm long; sepals 2.5-3 mm long, purplish, externally pubescent; claw of the petals 1.5-2 mm long, the “blade” ca 1 mm long, 1 mm wide, the basal lobes divergent, oblong, erose; androgynophore very short or absent, the staminal column 1.5 mm long, pentangular in cross-section, the anthers sessile; fruits subglobose, 8-9 mm long, minutely puberulent, spinose, the spines 1.5-2 mm long; seeds 6 mm long, wrinkled.A
