Description
Shrubs 1-2 m tall, the stems densely stellate-pubescent, the hairs 0.5-1 mm long, frequently stipitate, yellowish. Leaf blades mostly 3—4 cm long, ovate to subrhombic or weakly lobulate, truncate or cuneate, crenate, acute or sometimes obtuse, roughly pubescent above and beneath; petioles 1/4 the length of the blades or less; stipules 3—6 mm long, subulate, persistent. Flowers borne on axillary branches (rarely solitary) forming a leafy thyrse or panicle; pedicels more sparsely pubescent than the stem; involucellar bracts 5-7 mm long, filiform; calyx 10-14 mm long, densely yellowish pubescent, the hairs less than 1 mm long, ca. half-divided, the lobes mostly (3-) 4-10 mm wide, prominently cordate-plicate, long-acuminate, often purple-margined; petals 15-23 mm long, pink, ciliate on margins of claw, otherwise glabrous; androecium ca. half the length of the petals, the anthers purplish; styles ca. 9, glabrous. Fruits ca. 6 mm in diameter; mericarps ca. 9; seeds 2 mm long, minutely and patchily pubescent. Chromosome number unknown.A
