Descripción
Shrubs or trees 3—6 m tall, the stems stellate-pubescent (hairs 0.2-0.5 mm long) becoming glabrate, the young stems purplish. Leaf blades mostly 6-9 cm long, broadly ovate, truncate or subcordate, crenate-serrate, acuminate, essentially concolorous, minutely and evenly stellate-pubescent (the hairs 0.5-1 mm long); petioles 1/3-1/2 the length of the blades; stipules 4-6 mm long. Flowers usually in axillary fascicles of 3—6, apparently appearing after the leaves fall; pedicels 2-3.5 cm long, slender, articulated and sometimes geniculate near middle; calyx 6-8 mm long, basally rounded, ca. half-divided, the lobes triangular to ovate, reflexed in flower; petals 10-12 mm long, lavender drying whitish, with a dark purple spot at the base, fully reflexed, prominently pubescent on claw, otherwise glabrous; staminal column 5-7 mm long, pallid and pubescent at base, purplish and glabrous distally, the stamens 20-30, the filaments 2-3 mm long, more or less purplish, reflexed; styles 12-15, dark purple, glabrous. Mericarps 12-15, 8-20 mm long, divergent, falcate, inflated becoming samaroid, minutely pubescent; seeds 3 mm long, basal, minutely scabridulous. Chromosome number unknown. A
